It always inspires me to hear about other people’s bucketlists. The places they want to go, the things they want to see, all that they want to experience. There is a light in their eyes that shines of future adventures, hope of the unexpected and fire of exploration. This conversation truly is a way to connect with others and one that I find deeply motivating. So, for my first post, I decided to write about my bucketlist. Now, this is a rather large list as I truly stand by the quote “I haven’t been everywhere, but it is on my list.” I even have it on a canvas in my living room. To narrow it down and to find a bit more comprehension I decided to make it more of a 5 year plan.
I have traveled many places within the USA and Caribbean so the next 5 years will be one of more international travel and exploration with several hiking trips to national parks thrown in there as well. Though travel has always been my passion, it wasn’t until the past couple of years that I was able to travel as much as I do. Masters degree programs, strict career restrictions and that whole ‘adult life’ dream took precedence for awhile and only allowed me to travel a couple times a year. Fortunately, I am at a place in life I can now make traveling and adventuring my first priority. Which is probably a good thing because for awhile there I was about to just sell everything and take off in a Winnebago across the US. This is still quite the possibility.
So, over the next five years I hope to accomplish several trips. In 2017 alone I am hoping to see Germany and Switzerland in the fall and experience the legendary Oktoberfest. Stateside I have plans to visit Acadia National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park and Smoky Mountain National Park. Another international trip planned is to Turks and Caicos. This will give me a good mix of oceans and mountains as my heart is constantly torn between the two. The struggle with being an adventurer is that I long for places I have been and live for the excitement of places I haven’t. My heart has pieces scattered all over the world. And I am ok with that.
Looking forward, Italy, London, Scotland and Ireland take the cake for European dreams. Ireland has always been a dream of mine, quite literally as I dream often of going there. Scotland to me is a whimsical place and who doesn’t like the idea of that? Hiking adventures in the US will include mostly the west coast National Parks as I have such a drive to hike in them all. Especially the ones in Washington. The PNW is a place I often search flights to as well as jobs. Blog coming soon about my adventures in Oregon. So, to wrap up my five year plan, I definitely see myself on airplanes traveling around the world and exploring the wonders of my own country. Hawaii will also be thrown in there as I made a promise to my husband to return. I guess, if he has to twist my arm.
What are your dreams of adventures? Cliff diving? Traveling? Hiking? Kayaking mangroves? Anything they are I would love to hear about them. And remember, always, always stay wild.
